Who Dunnit? Fun night at Fusion Mission Viejo

It has all the makings of a thrilling mystery story: a great cast of characters, a motive, a crime, and those with the power to solve it.

Let me set the scene. There’s a wall. An innocent egg sits atop it, minding his own egg business, and out of nowhere he is pushed! He has a great fall! And all of a sudden we have a murder on our hands.

Students at Fusion Mission Viejo set out to solve the mystery once and for all:

Who pushed Humpty Dumpty off the ledge?

This was the murder mystery set up by the Forensic Science Club. These creative students pulled together the scripts, costumes, and props in about a month. They worked together to make all of it happen, including holding a bake sale to raise money for the props.

All was set for the big evening: “Once Upon a Murder” was ready for its debut.

About 20 people attended the event. Once guests arrived they were given initial clues and had to follow the trail to solve the mystery.

Teachers were given scripts and played roles along with the club members. Attendees worked their way through the clues, challenges, and obstacles and indeed solved the mystery…we’ll get to that in a bit.

Weston Bales, the Director of the Homework Café, said it was a great event. “[It] had a different demographic of kids than what usually come to our fun nights. Some of the shyer kids ended up pairing up with each other and started working together.”

Fun nights happen about once a month at Fusion Mission Viejo. They do their best to cater to all the different interests of Fusion students. “We have a lot of different little niches at Fusion” said Weston. Other fun nights they’ve had include video game tournaments, movie nights, and gathering supplies for care packages they sent overseas to the military.  “We try to do different things so everyone feels like they have a place.”

In the end, spoiler alert, it was Grumpy who pushed Humpty Dumpty.

And now we know.  Thanks, Fusion Mission Viejo. Mystery solved.
